Marquesan tribal demon half-sleeve
The client wanted a traditional Marquesan tattoo to reflect his story about overcoming hardships. After enough research I found the necessary symbols and style to do his story justice.
The central piece of the design is the demon head being caged in by rows of shark teeth, which represent strength and protection against threats and evil spirits coming both from the outside and from within.
The pair of eyes at the top represent the watchful eyes of his ancestors and a connection to his roots.
Along the side of the demon head and around the biceps are several different markings representing family members and the close bonds between them.
The spirals represent time and change.
