Metamorphozes is a collection of artworks by Mariam Zakarian, created in traditional and digital media such as oil, acrylics, digital painting and digital photo-manipulation.
Metamorphozes, meaning changes of form, refers to the changes in appearance, character, perception, function and essence that envelop our human existence and experience. From our thought processes to our emotional and physical reactions and interactions we are in flux as we attempt to understand ourselves and each other. These changes can be positive or negative, physical as well as psychological, but they are always present.
The 8 images in the series are the poetic manifestations of 8 different topics as interpreted by the artist. The topics range from death and ecstasy to communication, to the process of creation.

Under Byen (“Below the City”) is a Danish band, known for producing their own unorthodox interpretation of rock. I highly recommend their breathtaking music.

Warming up for them was a one-man band called Il Tempo Gigante.

I caught them live on the 26th of November 2010 at Musikhuset in Aarhus, Denmark.

Obviously, it can be done subtly or you can actually build a concept around the technique.

In this example I found that the original photos weren’t too interesting by themselves. Also, I thought both kids were cute and was disappointed that it wasn’t possible to get them both in the same frame. The solution was to clone the little boy in blue into the other picture in PhotoShop, using a lot of careful masking. The key ingredients here are patience, and returning to the image with fresh eyes to make sure everything seems natural.

In these cases I was unfortunately far away from the stage, so someone’s hand and a white object was in front of me. These were carefully removed in PhotoShop by using the healing tool and the cloning tool.

The client wanted a seal to represent his family name, which starts with the letter R.

The sign was to show energy, activity and the inspiration to push forward, while honoring the client’s roots.

The design was to be kept simple and minimalistic.
